This is a rare Georgian/Regency cut glass pickle jar dating from the beginning of the 19th century, c1810.
The jar is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the base consistent with some 200+ years of age and use.
The body of the jar is cylindrical, and is has been wheel-cut with prism cuts above a wide band of strawberry cut hobnail diamonds above further prism cuts and a basal band of panel cutting. It measures 8 cm (3.2 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The base is star-cut to the edge in the Regency fashion. The lid is of radially cut mushroom form, and is probably the original. Assembled, the jar measures 12 cm (4.8 inches) in height. There are a number of tiny flea-bite chips to some of the cut facets, in particular to the upper edge of the panel cutting. There are no other chips, cracks, scratches or any evidence of restoration.
A rare survivor in excellent condition for its type. It weighs in at 570 g. (~ 1 lb. 4 oz.).
