This is a matched set of four hollow stem champagne coupes dating from the early part of the 20th century. By matched set we mean that they probably did not originate as a set from one source but have been matched together by a prior owner to form a set of very similar glasses that vary slightly in dimension and capacity. Three are very similar and one is slightly shorter than the others.
The glasses are in excellent condition. They show some age related wear and tear consistent with use.
The glasses measure 8.1 cm (3.2 inches) in diameter across the bowl rims and are 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) in height. The bowls sit on eight sided vertically facet cut stems, the facets reaching up into the base of the bowls. The stems end in conical, plain feet that measure 7.1 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter. One glass has a couple of small bubbles in the metal of the bowl. One of the glasses bears the etched mark “PROPERTY OF MACFARLANES WESTON s. MARE” on the bottom of the foot. Macfarlanes were a wine merchant in Weston super Mare, Somerset at the beginning of the 20th century. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration. Each glass weighs 110 g. (~ 4 oz.). Each glass holds 75 ml. of wine, approximately one tenth of a bottle.
