This is a unique Orrefors Expo bowl, designed by Sven Palmqvist and dating from 1968. Glass items marked Expo were one-offs designed for exhibitions and expositions to show off the work of the maker. This design was used to produce a production range which used solid colour rather than the flecks and streaks seen in this Expo piece.
The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with use.
The bowl is broadly cup-shaped with an undulating top lip pulled into three peaks. The bowl was blown in clear glass with embedded blue and ochre coloured glass flecks/streaks embedded most heavily within the upper part of the bowl. The bowl measures 15 cm (6 inches) across at its widest point and is 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, other significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. The words “Orrefors Expo P 514-68 Sven Palmqvist” are scratched into the base.
Lead glass. It weighs in at 1.49 kg. (~ 3 lb. 4 oz.).
