Victorian cut glass serving dish

Out of stock

This is an antique cut glass serving dish with dentated rim dating from the early 19th century.

The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with age and use.

The bowl has an extended oval-shaped bowl measuring 28 cm (11.2 inches) by 20 cm (8 inches) across the dentated rim. The rim has four arches, each of which is cut with circles of hobnail diamonds. The intervening rhomboid panels are also cut with hobnails. The base is cut with a central square of hobnails and radiating prism cuts. The bowl is 6 cm (2.4 inches) in height. There are the normal flea bites out of some of the facets but there are no significant chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. One of the better preserved specimens we have seen.

It is made from lead metal weighing 1.31 kg. (~ 2 lb. 14 oz.).
