This is a small Etruscan polychrome enamelled vase attribute to Harrach and dating from the middle of the 19th century, c1850. Similar vases are shown on pages 179-180 in “From Neuwelt to the Whole World: 300 Years of Harrach Glass” by Helena Bro Kova.
The vase is in excellent condition for its age. This means of course that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 170 years of use.
The vase has a baluster-shaped body measuring 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter at the everted pouring rim which features a rubbed black enamel band. The vase is in white “frosted” glass decorated at the neck with a classic design in black. The body is enamelled in black and red with two figures, possibly Jonathan and David. The vase ends in a base that measures 6.5 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter. It is 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The vase is 20.5 cm (8.2 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration. The black enamelling is heavily rubbed, especially on the shoulders and foot. There is a collector’s sticker to the base.
A nice little vase weighing in at 310 g. (~ 11 oz.).
