This is a Victorian bird feeder dating from the early part of the 19th century, c1840.
The bird feeder is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear commensurate with 150 years of use.
The bird feeder is cone-shaped and is surmounted by a moulded flower finial. The feeder is plain but has a slight amethyst tinge. The slightly kicked-in base measures 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter and sports a rough pontil mark. The bird feeder is 17.6 cm (7 inches) in height.
There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration. There is small, thin extraneous piece of glass running on the underside of the opening where it was finished off. It is not a crack. The glass has a light amethyst tinge to it.
Soda glass, it weighs in at 132 g. (~ 4 1/2 oz.).
