This is a Georgian, mouth-blown, Prussian-shaped spirit decanter dating from the early 19th century, c1820.
The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200 years of use.
The decanter is Prussian shaped with three applied annular neck rings. The shoulders are cut with broad petal flutes and there is a basal band of finger fluting. The base is also plain with a polished out pontil mark to its centre and measures 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) in diameter. The decanter is 18.5 cm (7.4 inches) in height without the stopper and 23.5 cm (9.4 inches) in height with the stopper inserted.
The stopper is of bull’s eye/target form, and is probably not the original. It is of the same colour and metal as the decanter, is of the same period and the correct type, but is less than an excellent fit, rocking gently in the neck.
There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. The decanter has been professionally cleaned.
English lead glass decanter weighing in at 620 g. (~ 1 lb. 6 oz).
