This is a scarce large hand-painted glass bowl in the Maja pattern designed by Eva Englund and Arne Lindblom for Orrefors of Sweden and dating from the 1980s. It was probably designed as a fruit bowl.
The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some years of use.
The bowl is cup-shaped measuring 17.7 cm (7.1 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is hand-painted with flowers and foliage in the Maja pattern in red, blue and green enamel, and is moulded with eight vertical panels. The bowl sits on a very short plain stem that leads to a conical foot which measures 12.3 cm (4.9 inches) in diameter and on which is painted two blue circles of different widths. The bowl is 16.8 cm (6.7 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious signs of restoration. There is the original “Orrefors Sweden” label on the top of the foot and the vase is signed “EEAL” for the two designers.
Lead glass weighing in at 1.05 kg. ( ~ 2 lb. 5 oz.).
