This is a Georgian, English, hop and barley engraved dwarf ale glass dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, c1800.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a funnel-shaped bowl measuring 5.8 cm (2.3 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is engraved with a single hop flower to one side and with crossed barley ears to verso. The bowl sits on a short knopped stem and a conical foot which measures 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter. The glass is 13 cm (5.2 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a tiny dark inclusion in the metal of the bowl dating from manufacture. There is a collector’s sticker to the top of the foot and the stencilled collector’s number “041” to the bottom edge of the foot.
It is made from lead metal weighing 120 g. (~ 4 oz.).
