This is a rare, large Georgian English plain stem wine goblet dating from the mid 18th century, c1745.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot and the rim of the bowl consistent with some 250 years of use. There is a rough pontil mark on the bottom of the foot.
The glass has an unusual, large tulip-shaped bowl measuring 9.5 cm (3.8 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a thick plain stem and a conical, folded foot that measures 10.6 cm (4.2 inches) in diameter. The glass is 18.6 cm (7.4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a tiny piece of white frit in and some very light scratching to the metal of the bowl, and a couple of minute unburst bubbles in the metal of the foot, all dating from manufacture. The smaller, normal sized wine glass is just included for comparison purposes and is not included in the price. There is a collector’s sticker to the bottom of the foot.
It weighs in at 500 g. (~ 1 lb. 2 oz.). Holding more than a modern measure of wine, this is a perfect glass for those who like to use their glasses rather than just look at them.
