Georgian triple annular knop heavy baluster wine goblet

This is a Georgian, English, heavy baluster stem wine goblet dating from the beginning of the 18th century, c1730.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 300 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has a rounded funnel-shaped bowl measuring 7.9 cm (3.1 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a cushion knop above a triple annulated knop above a piece of plain stem with an embedded air tear and a basal knop. There is a small air tear, deliberately positioned in the middle of the base of the bowl, and another to the side which is probably accidental. The stem ends in a conical, folded foot which measures 9 cm (3.6 inches) in diameter. The glass is 17.5 cm (7 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is an unburst bubble in the metal of the bowl, a couple in the annulated knop, and a couple in the metal of the foot, all dating from manufacture.

English lead glass weighing in at 305 g. (~ 11 oz.).
