This is a large 20th century lampwork glass sculpture of two deer, designed and made by Istvan Komaromy and manufactured in the UK, probably in the 1950s. His earlier work typically used wooden bases with marble bases being used in the latter part of his career.
The sculpture is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows some age related wear and tear commensurate with use.
The sculpture is of two opaline glass stylised deer on a black wooden base. The sculpture measures 29 cm (11.6 inches) in width at its widest point (from heel to heel) and is 27 cm (10.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration. The black painted base has lost some of its colour in places where it has been rubbed but has no damage to it.
The sculpture breaks down into three pieces – the base and the two deer which sit into the holes on the top of the base via their feet.
It weighs in at 1.015 kg. (~ 2 lb. 4 oz.).
