This is a set of six Theresienthal enamelled wine glasses, manufactured in Bavaria, Germany, and dating from the early 20th century, c1907. The glasses are design number 1928 enamelled with pattern number 3006 and can be seen in the book “Theresienthal” by Karl-Wilhelm Warthorst of the Theresienthal factory where they are dated to 1907.
The glasses are in mainly in excellent condition for their age. They show minimal age related wear and tear commensurate with use.
The glasses measure 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter across the slightly everted bowl rims. The glasses are 20 cm (8 inches) in height. The bowls are enamelled with four green wreaths of leaves tied with a bow between single gilded Greek Key characters. They are connected by a gilded band and are also gilded to the bowl rims. The bowls are gently ogee in shape and lead to clear glass stems and conical feet which measure 7.2 cm (2.9 inches) in diameter. One of the glasses is very slightly shorter than the others where the bowl rim has possibly been ground down to remove a chip; this can be seen in the last image. The gilding and enamel is rubbed and has almost disappeared in places, hence the low price of the set. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other evidence of restoration.
Each glass weighs 130 g. (< 4 1/2 oz.).
